FAQs for Elvie Stride 2

How do I use the neck strap with Elvie Stride?

When you’re on the move, you can use the neck strap to wear the pump’s hub.

The neck strap is helpful if you’re wearing the hub with clothing that doesn’t have a waistband. It also helps keep the hub out of reach of little hands.

To use the neck strap:

  • Put the cover on the hub.

  • Clip the hook on the neck strap to the cover.

Elvie Pump vs Elvie Stride 2: what’s the difference?

Elvie Pump is our most advanced breast pump, with our most sophisticated in-bra technology. It’s tube-free, so you can pump on-the-go discreetly and confidently.

Elvie Pump features a sophisticated app experience and 3 SmartRhythms designed to optimize your milk output and help you achieve your pumping goals.

Elvie Stride 2 is our hospital-grade suction pump, offering 10 intensity settings with Stimulation and Expression modes. It gives you lightweight, in-bra pumping with a small hub that sits outside the bra, connected via tubes. The hub can be clipped to your waist or hung around your neck to keep your hands free.

Elvie Stride 2 can also be app-controlled with a timer and pumping insights.

Elvie Stride vs Elvie Stride 2: what’s the difference?

Elvie Stride 2 is an evolution of our hands-free pump, Elvie Stride. It offers the same hospital-grade suction and app connected control that you love, now with a better fit, better feel, and better flow. This includes redesigned soft silicone cups for increased comfort and comes with six sizing options in the box, ensuring a fit for 99% of nipples.*

*Based on our recommendation that sizing difference between nipple measurement and breast shield size is 2-4mm, Elvie research of nipple sizing (inc. US & UK user study, involving 454 nipples, in Jan 2022) and publicly available guidance by lactation and breastfeeding consultants.

Is Elvie Stride 2 more powerful than Elvie Stride?

Both Elvie Stride and Elvie Stride 2 provide hospital-grade suction (from ~270mmHg, or up to ~300 mmHG in single cup format). Both pumps use the same Hub, but correctly selecting and fitting your pump is key to getting the right level of suction. Elvie Stride 2 provides a wider range of sizes from the box so you can find your best fit with Elvie Nipple inserts.'

Does Elvie Stride 2 work with all cup sizes?

Elvie Stride 2 is designed to fit in a standard nursing bra, and cup size makes no difference to how it works.

Finding the right breast shields to fit your nipples is the key to a good fit. Because your nipples will change size before and after birth, it’s important to check the fit regularly.

For more information, see ‘How to choose your nipple insert size’.

Do I need a special bra to use Elvie Stride 2?

No, Elvie Stride 2 is designed to be worn with a standard nursing bra. The most important thing is how firmly the cups are pressed against your breasts when you’re using them, so that they form a seal but not pressing so hard that it inhibits your milk flow. We call this “compression.” Using your bra’s adjustment straps can help with this. Every bra has a different level of support, so make sure to check the compression before each session.

Do I need to massage my breast before using my Elvie Stride 2?

It’s completely up to you. Elvie Stride 2 has a Stimulation mode that’s designed to do this bit for you and help start let-down. However, if you usually massage your breast to help with let-down or expressing in general, you can absolutely continue to do this. It’s all about what works best for you.

What positions can I use my Elvie Stride 2 in?

Generally, we recommend sitting or standing. However, depending on factors like the amount of milk in the bottle and where the pump sits on your breast, you might find you have more flexibility to use Elvie Stride 2 in a range of positions.

We’ve had testers unload dishwashers, change their babies, and much more while using Elvie Stride 2. As long as the pump is comfortable and functioning properly, you can use it in lots of different positions.

Just be aware that you should not use your pump while:

  • Lying down

  • Driving

  • Engaging in strenuous activities

  • Performing activities with risk of harm, such as operating heavy machinery

Can I use Elvie Stride 2 if I have an implanted device?

It is recommended that you consult with a licensed healthcare professional before using Elvie Stride 2 if you have an active implanted device that would be affected by a magnetic field (e.g. a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator).

Can I use Elvie Stride 2 while I’m pregnant?

No. If you’re expecting, please do not use Elvie Stride 2 until after you’ve given birth. This is because breast pumping can induce labor in some cases.

If you become pregnant while breastfeeding or breast pumping, please consult with a licensed healthcare professional before continuing.

Can more than one person use my Elvie Stride 2?

No, Elvie Stride 2 is designed to only be used by one person. For health and hygiene reasons, it’s very important that you don’t share your pump with anyone else.

If another person uses your pump, it will also void the warranty.

Does Elvie Stride 2 have disposable bags?

No, Elvie Stride 2 does not have disposable bags. Milk is expressed directly into reusable cups. It should then be poured into a suitable sealed container.

All the parts that come into contact with milk can be cleaned, disinfected and reused.

How many modes and intensity settings does Elvie Stride 2 have?

Elvie Stride 2 has a Stimulation and an Expression mode.

Stimulation mode is a faster pumping rhythm to stimulate milk let-down. In this mode, the pump is massaging your nipple to let your breast know that it’s time to produce milk.

Expression mode is a slower, stronger pumping rhythm. In this mode, your pump is helping your breast to release milk efficiently.

Within each mode, there are 10 different intensity settings which change how much suction there is on your nipples. These settings help you to personalize your pump so it feels comfortable and works efficiently in both modes.

What automatic functions does Elvie Stride 2 have?

Elvie Stride 2 has a number of automatic functions that are designed to make your life easier:

  • Elvie Stride 2 automatically switches from Stimulation mode to Expression mode after two minutes.

  • While you’re expressing, Elvie Stride 2 will automatically pause after 40 minutes if a button has not been pressed.

  • When it’s paused, Elvie Stride 2 will turn off if a button has not been pressed for five minutes.

  • Elvie Stride 2 will automatically turn off if the battery is empty.

  • Elvie Stride 2 will automatically turn off if there is a technical error.

Is Elvie Stride 2 a closed system?

Yes, Elvie Stride 2 is a closed system. The diaphragms create a physical barrier between the milk flow and air flow. For this reason, you should always make sure the diaphragms are dry before assembly.

Elvie Stride 2 is designed to only be used by one person.

Which breast shield sizes are available for Elvie Stride 2?

Every Elvie Stride 2 comes with a 28mm breast shield attached to each cup. There are also 5 sizes of inserts included in the box: 24mm, 21mm, 19mm, 17mm, 15mm, ensuring a fit for 99% of nipples.*

We recommend taking the time to find the best fit possible. Fit can have a significant impact on milk production.

For more information, see ‘How to choose your breast shield size’.

*Based on our recommendation that sizing difference between nipple measurement and breast shield size is 2-4mm, Elvie research of nipple sizing (inc. US & UK user study, involving 454 nipples, in Jan 2022) and publicly available guidance by lactation and breastfeeding consultants.

How much milk can a cup hold?

Each Elvie Stride 2 cup holds 5 oz or 150ml of milk. If you fill a cup while expressing, you’ll need to pause or end your session.

Each cup also has a handy fill line. It’s a good idea to use this to check how full a cup is during a session.

Does milk pass through Elvie Stride 2’s tubes?

No, the tubes should never have milk in them. If milk gets into the tubes, it can damage the hub and cause mold.

To stop milk getting into the tubes, always check that the diaphragm is correctly fitted to the cup front.

If you ever do see milk in the tubes, you should contact our Customer Care Team for assistance.

What level of suction can I expect from Elvie Stride 2?

Elvie Stride 2 creates suction up from -270mmHg to -300 mmHg*. It has 10 different intensity settings, which means you can tailor it to be just right for you.

When you use a higher intensity, two things happen:

  1. The suction gets stronger.

  2. The pumping cycles get slower.

When you use a lower intensity setting, the opposite happens:

  1. The suction reduces.

  2. The pumping cycles get faster.

While it might seem logical, using a higher setting may not always produce more milk. Some women find that stronger suction is the best thing for their milk output, while others find that faster cycles really get things moving. It’s best to experiment to find what works for you.

Please keep in mind that pumping beyond a setting that is comfortable for you is likely to have a negative impact on milk production. If suction strength is your thing, always make sure you’re within a range that is comfortable.

In a single cup format*.

What does hospital-grade suction mean?

Hospital-grade power breast pumps are usually created with features like strong suction and unique expression technology. Elvie Stride 2 delivers high maximum pressures from -270mmHg up to -300 mmHg* with 10 intensity settings in each of its Stimulation and Expression modes. This power is comparable with, and in some cases higher than, other hospital-grade power breast pumps.

Unlike some Hospital-grade suction breast pumps, Elvie Stride 2 is a single user device only. It must never be shared with anyone else.
